Cattle and maize farming

Milk, quality heifers and bulls, hay and improved maize from our farms in Kiambu County.

What our farms produce

  • Milk
  • Quality dairy and beef heifers and bulls for sale to other farmers
  • Improved maize, onions, hay and bananas
  • Basic seed (maize and beans) under contract for seed companies

Our owners are agriculturalists specialising in intensive and extensive dairy and in food science and technology, and they intend to put that experience into the company's growth.

Our proposed dairy business model

Milk from smallholder farmers, from large farms and from Kidago farm goes through Kenya's milk collection centres to a processing plant, then out to buyers. We also plan to supply a school milk feeding programme.

The company will also produce improved dairy heifers and bulls, and hay, to sell to farmers and pastoralists so cattle productivity improves on smallholder farms and in traditional cattle systems.

Beef production

We are expanding our beef cattle and goat enterprise into quality beef production, by investing in a feedlot with a capacity of 50 cattle and 60 goats per year, and a milking machine.

In the long term we plan to enter the beef market, mainly serving Kiambu. Our Managing Director visited Kiambu farmers in October 2022 to explore markets for dairy milk, and met exporters of live livestock who want to invest in livestock trade in Kenya.

Forage and crop production

Forage is the foundation of an efficient cattle system. Large-scale forage production will be carried out at Kikuyu farm, with foundation forage seed banks kept at Kingeero farm. We focus on improved species such as Rhodes and alfalfa, conserved as hay for the dry season.

Most hay feeds our own dairy and fattening herd. Surplus is sold to farmers in Ruaka, Wangige and Kiambu, where demand is high in dry weather, and to pastoralists who want to keep milking cows near home.
